About

LIR

Language In Review was started with one purpose in mind.  That purpose is to better inform and equip Japanese language learners with the best tools out there.  There are so many applications, websites, and textbooks out there that it can be overwhelming to choose from.  With textbooks ranging from 2,000 to 7,000 yen, you cannot just go around buying whatever textbook has the shiniest cover.  You have to make well informed decisions.

That’s where we come in.  Language In Review is sorting through dozens of textbooks, applications, and websites and rating them on their usefulness.

So take a look through our recommendations, and contact us to let us know what we should review next.

How I Review

Usefulness

This is pretty self explanatory.  In this category I judge how useful I thought this particular resource was to my studies.

Price

Study materials can be expensive.  Books that cost up to $100, or monthly subscriptions that cost $25 a month.  You should not just spend the money because the cover says it will make you fluent in 30 days.  There are loads of books and services out there that are over priced, and there are some that are appropriately priced.  I will do my best to judge as impartially as I can and tell you how appropriate the price is.

Approachability

This will be different for different people, but here I will judge whether or not the study material is approachable.  What I mean by this is that I will be judging whether or not the level of difficulty is appropriate for what level the material is teaching to.

Longevity

Here I will judge how long this material will stay pertinent to your studies.  You do not want to spend $100 dollars on something only to get through it in a week.
