Design makes it difficult to find specif grammar. Almost too much information on each page. Can be overwhelming. Background and colors make it slightly difficult to read.

Tim Sensei`s Corner, much like Tae Kim`s Guide To Japanese, has sought out to explain Japanese grammar in the easiest and yet most detailed way.  Since 1997, Tim has compiled a massive amount of grammar explanations and examples.

Unfortunately, Tim spent all his time making great explanations, but little time on organization and design.  Tim has compiled one of the best grammar references out there, but unless you know the grammar point already or know what page Tim has put it on, you will have a hard time finding it.  Here is a run through of the site:

  • Tim Sensei`s Corner`s home page.

  • Unless you know what Tim means by Base 3 + zu ni, you will not know what grammar point you are clicking on.

  • This is the grammar explanation.  Good, but could be laid out much better.

Tim uses link titles like “ka dou ka” and unless you know what that grammar point already means, you will not know what that lesson will teach you.  Tim needs to add English equivalents to the links so that the users will know what they are clicking on.  That and a search bar would make this grammar reference much better.

In the end, this site has heaps of potential, but as it is now I cannot recommend it.  The information that Tim offers is great, but with other websites offering similar explanations and with better layouts, I have to recommend checking out other sites.

Still the explanations are fantastic.  If you would like to see the site for yourself, check it out here:
